Day Room, 1974

My old, old and very dear friend Rachel Johnson has written a remarkable piece about her remarkable mother, the painter Charlotte Johnson Wahl. Charlotte was an in-patient at the Maudsley psychiatric hospital as a young mother of four and the devastating, brilliant paintings she made while she was there are being shown from December 11. The exhibition is called What It Felt Like (when Charlotte left the Maudsley, she left them the paintings). Here’s a review of it.
