Interiors: no stuff, or all the stuff?
maybe we are all two people. Plus, a handful of hotels
Sometimes I want to wear something very plain and minimal - no fuss, neutral colours and a kind of implied efficiency. Sometimes I want to dress more elaborately. And it’s fine, because my wardrobe contains both options.
But you can’t really do that with interiors. You have to be reasonably consistent in your look, not veer too wildly in another direction, and I think that many of us are sometimes curious about what it would be like to live inside a completely different aesthetic.
Personally, I like rooms that make you feel like you’re in a nice-looking nest and are welcome to take a nap at any time. Rooms that make you feel like you should sit up straight (on the hard sofa) are not for me. I dislike even the suggestion of grey. I like garden flowers much more than 50 white tulips all cut to exactly the same height, and higgledy piles of books more than anything that could be called ‘sculptural’ or ‘curated’. The idea of making a house look ‘like a hotel’ is puzzling to me - I spend a significant amount of time trying to find hotels that look like someone’s house. Let’s digress for a second and look at some, in case you like them too:
