Hope an editor will attend to the typos (not good, especially in the first chapter, even these days when nothing seems to be proof-read any more. ) Georgette H. was an absolute stickler for period detail and researched endlessly. She would NOT approve of the anachronisms I noticed, eg ‘white-knuckled’ a phrase which wasn’t coined until after the Regency period. (Sometimes I hate being a language pedant…. but ….. Standards!)
I'm sure they will ne attended to. Proof copies, such as India has been kond enough to share part of us with here, still have another set of eyes to be cast over usually. As a writer and fellow language fan, I can say publishers definitely do still contract proof readers and authors reread the manuscript until we're almost sick of it. We all do our best to ensure no errors slip through - it's hugely frustrating if that happens - but we are all still human.
Sorry it belted away And I did not want to sound ungracious at all as the historical detail etc etc is really good, but when you know, you know, and when you love, adore even, you cannot be given anything but the real deal. I love Georgette Heyer so very much and know them all so well. There is of course a spotlight for Henrietta, but Georgette Heyer stands alone in hers . Newcomers, please read her first . I recommend Venetia as a kick off xxx
Really saddened to see that raging fire on the Heath, poor wildlife. I hope it stays away from you. I live near heathland and it is a concern… the weather this year is truly showing us this s**t got real x

OMG - I absolutely adore Heyer, and devoured all her books several times over as a teen and again as an adult. Trepidation at the thought of a “new” one but also…not? A bit like messing with a legend….then again I know from Darling that it can be done, so it’s probably going into the shopping cart and will join the stacks (what’s that Japanese word again? Tsundoku!)
I also loved the Cazalet chronicles and have in turn recommended those to several friends…and just finished reading The Eight - which I couldn’t put down and did not want to end, and immediately foisted onto my 19 yr old daughter, who also loved it.
Separately - I finally started on Mounjaro two weeks ago and wow. Why did I wait so long…so thank you again for those posts from a year ago because I referred to them again and again in the early days before/after starting and they were so useful!
Fires - I’m in France at the moment and it’s been apocalyptic around Arcachon/Bordeaux where we always go in August (friends have been evacuated and it looks like a war zone) and I saw the news re fires all over the UK too. Stay safe…

Beyond tragic to think of the devastation to Dunwich, and so so many other wildlife habitats globally. We really must turn back from the brink of climate disaster, before the whole world goes up in flames.

SO sorry to disagree but I really don't like this it all. It's Heyer filtered by Bridgerton - far too over-written and mannered.
