I really needed a long read over the weekend and lots of gorgeous things to dream about as I broke my ankle on Thursday and was laid up in bed. However I feel more cheerful today (might be the drugs) and decided that as my leg will be encased in a black surgical boot for several weeks I need to have an eye catching /eccentric/frivolous top half. Thus I have watched endless videos on how to tie vintage silk scarves, bought several secondhand blouses with extravagant sleeves on Vinted and splurged on two limited edition Marilyn Monroe lipsticks from Lisa Eldridge. Sometimes shopping really is therapy ☺️

Hens: we got some from a place near Royston, they are great little ladies!

Two of our old ladies dies recently which is sad, so we now have 1 dowager duchess and 5 girlies plus of course Brian the Bantam cockerel bustling about like Captain Mainwairing…..

I’d been mulling over the nightie IOI and you pushed me over the edge….!

Lots of much needed loveliness as usual. The Maison Bengal bags look great - the biiiiig one looks like exactly what I need, duly added to bag. Dear Helena looking (and being) utterly fabulous as ever. Phillipa Perry - so wise. So much more to delve into - thank you.

Another wonderful read, thanks India. I think that RIXO dress would make a lovely summer wedding dress 😍

I always feel that I want to reply in pictures-my nasturtiums, my joyous back yard, my eBay antelope lamp, Chorley’s peregrine falcon chicks. Perhaps I need my own Substack?!

I love that plate so much! I don't wear summer dresses but all of those are sterling recommendations (I'm also very into nightwear as day wear) - I do think that the tea dress and little cardigan era was the absolute best for pretty spring/summer looks. The pillowcases! And thank you for all the delicious links to lovely things to read.

Just so lovely India, thank you and I run a book festival in the south west, we always give authors chairs, great sound systems, post its for book signings and great respect always.

Oh I love those pillowcases! My glow getter butter arrived today and smells gorgeous. Working my way through all the links now while the kids procrastinate their bath a bit longer and I secretly don’t mind because extra reading time 😁

I loved:

crusader effigy owl chicks

many middlebrow novels - was just reminded of Molly Keane - very well worth a try for anybody who doesn't know her, start with Good Behaviour

I have worn this dress so much - it's gorgeous, and the print is soooo pretty! Thanks for the shout-out India. Happy Saturday! Sx

Thank you India - another delight for a perfect Saturday in the sunshine. I designed our house to have big walls for my husband's paintings. Now he's talking about painting on floors so I think it's time to move :)

Loved this as usual. Have just slumped onto sofa after ironing and

D was pleased to see it had arrived. Also India! The ospreys first egg hatched this week and the first chick is there with his head bobbling around.

Great read, which I’m doing in the garden , making the most of what might be the last of the sunshine for a few days. We are about 2 miles away from our local rugby stadium from which there was a Billy Ocean concert last night .We didn’t attend because we get to hear for free from the garden . Not up to anything this weekend for a change. I’ve made the whipped feta already and will have the salmon in the coconutty peanut sauce tomorrow .

Your substack has been a bit of light relief from Schindlers Ark which I bought in an amazing book shop in Krakow last week .I read it years ago ,but now that I’ve visited Krakow I felt I had to re- read .It feels so much more important now that I’ve visited the city.
