I think I want a chaise longue (that looks very peculiar - but according to OED it is the correct spelling). And she must have rushed out and picked everything to fill every vase and and then shut the door and peacefully got on with her book (I'm assuming it is a book and not darning on such a day).
I immediately clicked on the book link and put it in my basket but then wondered “what does India do with all her books?” could you write a post about it? Mostly I find all my books a joy but occasionally they are oppressive
What an absolutely charming painting - just beautiful.
Now I'm off to look up your parasol recs as due to a rush-of-blood-to-the-head purchase of a
(v shabby chic) vintage French table for the garden, I am in unexpected need of one. How lovely to be able to go back through your archive of useful informative posts India.
Yes, sort of, except given to faithful servants of either the Tsar or the Party, depending on the period. They were given a tiny bit of land and built these houses on it - sort of like a big shed on a small allotment. If you click on the link that says 'dacha' above you get loads of photos from the book I mentioned.
I’m all about the light, or more, the use of it. I have a very dark painting of the Drakensberg mountains in S.A, but it’s still the light that provides the magic.

I’ve always loved Russian history and the idea of having a dacha has always appealed. So quietly elegant. Thanks for sharing ❤️
You're very welcome.
Saw The Cherry Orchard yesterday so very into this! Fully obsessed with the dacha concept.
How lovely re Cherry Orchard. Dachas so interesting - all their permutations over the years.

I have a lot of bookshelves but still piles everywhere, it DOES get quite oppressive. See the WeBuyBooks app if it all gets too much!

Oh good, and I'm so happy to be of use! I am planning on repainting a table exactly like that this afternoon. Hope it's as easy as I think it is.
So... like a beach hut, but in the country? What a great idea. A bit like those ultra-posh sheds that people have nowadays. Exquisite painting.

Oh this is so beautiful. The sun streaming through… it’s like a feeling in a painting - thank you for sharing xx
That's perfect - it's exactly like a feeling in a painting!
Such a beautiful, light-filled painting. I would love such a place to sit and read quietly.
It's dreamy, isn't it?
It is. It reminded me of a painting by Duncan Grant I have just discovered, as it captures early summer so well. I shall try to add it to Notes!
Oh please do!
Posted!
So annoying not to be able to have images in comments.
How very romantic. I love that your painting choices often involve a great use of sunlight.
I love light. Though I just found a really good dark painting that I'm going to post in November.

Yes, it's always the light.
What a wonderful painting, I would love to wake up to that every morning!
It's charming, isn't it? Essence of summer.
