Always a joy to look through your recommendations and suggestions India. I've got a little shop and I'm lucky enough to have stock the little enamel olive dishes and also the candles in the lemon pattern! They really are as lovely as they look! Have a lovely weekend : ) xx
India, I just wanted to say how much I adore your Good Things post - I know you intend it as a weekend read but I tend to save it as a little treat to get through Monday (or this week - Tuesday) - It is a delight and always makes me smile xx
Thank you for the inspiration of the newly published Elizabeth David book in an early post. My husband loves them, reads cover to cover. I needed a perfect but tiny birthday present for him to open whilst we’re in Italy and he hasn’t put it down.
Love this post and those pictures, eek! Re the birdbath trick, I'd be really worried about giving birds copper. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be good to overdose them on a mineral like that??
As always, so much fabulousness that it's impossible to mention everything one thinks of while reading. But, off the top of my head:
Jo Thompson's garden looks absolutely wonderful.
Butter and Bumble made me laugh; my mother had a friend called Ping (and one called Bunny), and one of my friend's grandmothers was called Puncher, and for years she and I would call each other and use any of those, or any other equally hysterical name we could think of.
Polly Vernon's eyelid surgery: I would be tempted. But, I knew a great and renowned beauty once (long dead now and unlamented), and she said she had had it done and it made her eyes look smaller - but that may have been narcissism and the horror of ageing talking.
I woke up to an emails from friends telling me that you had mentioned my post. Super grateful to you, dear India, and for all the links for the weekend. You really do make everything better. Much love. 💗
My goodness, India, thank you *so* much. Feel slightly grotesque to be piggy-backing on *Jo's* amazing work (and that of her very hard working team) but I *do* feel v strongly that gardening is curative of so many of life's ills.
Would love to walk into those photos of Jo Thompson's garden - gorgeous! I laughed out loud about the dating scene, and although it was technically an HR no-no at some places of business “dipping a quill in company ink" was the way to meet people, and most employers turned a blind eye - since they
were often having office romances themselves. Have a great weekend! 🌺
That olive bowl! 😍

Yes, fair point. Anne Wareham below says it doesn't work...
The dating thing, soo hard these days. I am just not brave enough. Might join a convent or get a cat.
Thank you for all the joy India and have a lovely weekend
Thank you Frances - you too!

Thanking. Also Puncher! I might have to steal that for a novel.

And to you! LOVING your newsletter.
I look forward to this post every Saturday. I thought Gen X went to 1980.
It does - I meant I am the oldest Gen X can be but thank you - have amended!
I thought that 1965 was the first year of Generation X
Yep--1965-1980. I'm firmly planted in that range.

Also, I thought the ship story was so funny.
Fantastic piece. I'm obsessed with that ship.
We’ve missed Chelsea by 10ish days, so we’ve been watching every night on BritBox, and THAT ROSE. And Jo Thompson’s garden!
I'm so glad you can watch it! I know, that garden is sublime.
We loved it!
That ship! And Gah! more marvellous book recommendations. Wonderful as always.
Thank you! Isn't the ship thing extraordinary? Imagine waking up - you'd think you were hallucinating, or stuck in a dream.
Terrifying! But what a great story to tell :)

That garden is a DREAM. Quill/ink used to be how most people met I think? Have lovely weekend too.
Thank you for mentioning me, India! You’re incredibly, repeatedly generous x
Because you are repeatedly great!

the copper penny/bird bath trick is genius. have a lovely long weekend - it's the rare occasion when both the US and UK have long weekends!
Anne below says it doesn't work, alas. Have a lovely long weekend too!
Oh no!
