The Reader by Lovis Corinth, 1911

I started compiling this list in my head and it very quickly got monstrously unwieldy. So what I have done is a short list of novels that I would take on holiday with me right now, today.

Good books don’t age and there are also summer reading lists from last year here and here. And of course I recommend all the books featured in Me & My Desk.

If you’re reading this on the web as opposed to on the app or email, there’s a whole Books section at the top of the home page that is stuffed to the gills with further reading suggestions, free extracts and so on.

If you are too weak and hot to click through to said free extracts (bearing in mind things auto-paywall after 4 weeks), these are all passionately recommended and they are:

  • Small Bomb At Dimperley by Lissa Evans

  • A Little Trickerie by Rosanna Pike

  • Fundamentally by Nussaibah Yunis

  • Consider Yourself Kissed by Jessica Stanley

  • Albion by Anna Hope

Take your pick! But this is what I would pack in addition to those. Lots of people have done excellent summer reading lists and I’ve also linked to a couple of my favourites below.
