Thanks for the book recommendations. I think you might enjoy Alis Hawkins’ crime novels. The Skeleton Army is her latest (and best I think!).

I can't bear age-related moaning when nothing is actually the MATTER with the person. Drives me nuts. Drives me particularly nuts when it's performative outrage for clicks/book sales/whatever.
