Thanks for this India. That painting is quite perfect, isn't it? I like to think that now, it is also quietly reminding us that when this painting was created - it'd would still be another 20 years before the women in Denmark would be able to vote...and another 30 years in the UK. As you say, spot on for a bit of Sunday-reflection. x

Dear India, I'm so sorry to message you on here but I don't know how else to reach you. I sent a parcel to your agent Honor with some things I hope you'll like, made by local craftswomen who I represent. It was been delivered 3 weeks ago, but as I've not heard from her, I wanted to check she's sent it on to you. I hope you enjoy the contents!

Love it… has made me want to buy a Royal Copenhagen coffee cup, in the hope that my Sundays might feel like this one!!

Any chance you could share a random painting <every> Sunday India…? This one has felt such a joy to wake up to and then learn about…!

I’ve just looked up Royal Copenhagen. Isn’t it pretty?

Expand full comment

Yes! Couldn’t believe that it featured in the painting and is still in production now…!

Not sure about every Sunday, but certainly SOME Sundays might be nice. Meanwhile Beyond Bloomsbury is lovely - https://beyondbloomsbury.substack.com

Is that Edward Bulmer’s Jonquil on the walls?! My solution is not to iron.

Expand full comment

I don’t normally iron much at all, but as part of my declutterring project I was uploading some items to Vinted so they needed to look pukka!

Ha, not a million miles. And very wise.

Thank you so much - a lovely little gift for a Sunday morning. A double gift for me as I went into the study to pull it off the printer (which has made a pretty good job of it) and as the study also serves as our ironing station, I noticed that I had left the iron on - since Friday! I had idly wondered why the smart meter looked a little high yesterday 😳

Oh my gosh! I have to say out loud "I AM UNPLUGGING THE IRON' - and I do the same with turning off the gas hob.... this avoids scary moments.(It also avoids slight OCD having to go back and check umpteen times whether or not I've unplugged/turned off)

My friend who has OCD films herself unplugging/turning off/locking front door and then refers back to her phone for reassurance.

Best joke - two homeless men in conversation.. "What was it with you? Drink?" .."No, I left the immersion heater on"

Hahaha, I have very much been there.

I NEVER thought of that..... genius

Bloody hell! Phew, though. Also you would think modern irons had the gumption to turn themselves off if left on that long.

You’d think - next purchase I feel!

A great way to start Sunday, India. Everything about this painting is lovely - the subject, the light, the atmosphere, textiles and textures... truly one to dive into

It's so lovey isn't it, even the texture of the tablecloth.
